Position Overview: Provides clinical and clerical support to providers and members of the patient care team by performing back office, patient-related, and phlebotomy tasks to support high-quality patient care. Ensures smooth workflow within the department and assists in implementing the medical plan of care. Performs laboratory procedures in phlebotomy and specimen handling within the scope of practice. Uses education, technical skills, and patient interaction to gain confidence and cooperation from patients, families, and healthcare providers.

Ideal candidate will have completed a Medical Assistant program AND hold a current CPT I license through the California Department of Public Health.

Job Description: This is a Limited Term position for 28 weeks.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of a course of study consistent with Medical Assistant requirements as specified by the Medical Board of California.

Certification & Licensure:

• CPT I - Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, California Department of Public Health
• BLS - Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

Typical Experience:

• At least 1 year of relevant experience.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Knowledge of scope of practice for Medical Assistants in California
• Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations
• Knowledge of clinical protocols for vital signs
• Knowledge of normal vital sign values
• Knowledge of patient positioning
• Understanding of effective teamwork between front and back office staff
• Proficiency in medical terminology and English communication
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Work Schedule: Days, Full-Time, 10-hour shifts, variable days, as needed weekends

Benefits: Yes; Non-union; 40 hours/week; Employee status: Limited Term (Fixed Term)
