Job summary

Location: Rock Valley, IA. The Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist at Hegg Health Center supports laboratory staff with venipunctures, fingersticks, specimen collection, and basic instrument maintenance.

A CPT certification or accredited training is preferred, with 3–6 months related experience acceptable; training will be provided if needed. Annual influenza vaccines are mandatory for all employees, and relevant abuse reporting courses must be completed within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• CPT certification or state-approved phlebotomy training, or 3–6 months related experience.
• Willingness to be trained in phlebotomy, specimen collection, and lab practices.
• Prior medical assisting experience preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipunctures, fingersticks, heelsticks and swabs as directed.
• Assist laboratory staff with specimen collection and processing.
• Maintain instruments and assist with clerical tasks as needed.

Position Highlights

The Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist assists the laboratory staff by performing venipunctures, fingersticks, heelsticks, collection of swabs, instrument maintenance, filing, charging, and other tasks as needed and assigned.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) certification; or Phlebotomy Technician training completion from a state endorsed, program accredited college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred but not required. Suitable candidate will be trained by laboratory staff in phlebotomy, specimen collection, and laboratory practices.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

• Annual influenza vaccinations are mandatory for all employees by December 1, unless a medical waiver is signed and approved.
• Completion of the Child Abuse & Dependent Adult Abuse courses for Iowa Mandatory Reporters within 90 days of employment and every 3 years thereafter.
