Job summary

Communicare+OLE in Davis, CA is seeking a Medical Assistant for the Perinatal department to support medical visits and patient intake. You will work with a multidisciplinary team to provide care to a primarily low-income, non-English speaking population.

The position includes phlebotomy, care coordination, EMR scheduling, and timely follow-up of referrals and lab results. Full-time, 8am-5pm, with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an MA training program is required.
  • Phlebotomy certification strongly preferred.
  • One year MA experience in outpatient setting preferred.
  • Current CPR certification required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish/Dari/Punjabi strongly preferred.

Medical Assistant, Perinatal

Location: Davis, CA

Schedule: Full Time; Monday- Friday (8am-5pm)

Pay Range: $25.58 to $31.26 hourly

Reports To: Perinatal Clinic Manager

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant is part of the Perinatal department and works with the medical services staff to assist with medical visits and provide initial patient intake. The Medical Assistant works as part of a multidisciplinary team composed of clinic services coordinators, physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and community health workers to provide comprehensive care to a primarily low‑income, non‑English speaking population.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Perform phlebotomy and basic laboratory duties as needed.
  • Provide age‑appropriate care to clients and demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development.
  • Coordinate care for perinatal patients: scheduling appointments, referring to specialists and labs, tracking attendance, coordinating outpatient/inpatient continuity of care, managing high‑risk patients and abnormal test results, scheduling care transfers, hospital admissions, and referrals.
  • Communicate with Medi‑Cal, Partnership, and other insurers to assist clients with obtaining health care coverage and problem‑solving insurance issues.
  • Adhere to CPSP guidelines to ensure appropriate health education, nutrition, and psychosocial care services are offered and followed up for each client.
  • Prepare patient charts: prepare all lab, ultrasound, and medical reports; maintain consistent chart order; complete routing slips; prepare lab referrals; schedule health education, nutrition, and social work services as needed.
  • Accurately complete and submit billing records.
  • Ensure compliance with quality assurance policies and procedures, including abnormal lab tracking, DNKA tracking, high‑risk patient monitoring, and postpartum patient follow‑up.
  • Enter and monitor clinic midwife schedules in the EMR; assist the PN Administrator and Clinic Coordinator in maintaining appropriate provider/patient ratios.
  • Close perinatal patient charts per established guidelines.
  • Provide administrative and clinical support to PN Coordinators to ensure quality patient care and timely follow‑up of referrals, medical records, and lab results.
  • Coordinate ultrasound and GYN clinics, including referral management, record review, chart setup, rooming of patients, Spanish translation, transcribing, and clinic follow‑up.
  • Attend perinatal staff meetings, site meetings, and other operations meetings as needed.
  • Perform other program duties as required (e.g., supporting additional clinics, data entry, travel between clinics).
Minimum Position Requirements
  • Education: Completion of an MA training program required.
  • Phlebotomy certification strongly preferred.
  • Experience: One year of MA experience in an outpatient setting strongly preferred; experience working in a health clinic or demonstrated commitment to low‑income populations required.
  • Skills/Training: Current CPR certification required.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish/Dari/Punjabi strongly preferred.
