Key Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
  • Room pediatric patients and obtain accurate vital signs, height, weight, and developmental information
  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations and procedures
  • Administer immunizations and injections according to established protocols
  • Perform point-of-care testing
  • Complete medication reconciliation
  • Prepare and maintain examination rooms and clinical equipment
  • Stock supplies and ensure exam rooms are clean and ready for patient care
  • Document patient information and maintain accurate electronic medical records
  • Enter diagnostic and ancillary orders as directed by providers
  • Communicate effectively with providers regarding patient concerns and follow-up needs
Administrative Duties
  • Schedule appointments and coordinate patient follow-up visits
  • Manage patient messages and assist with prescription refill requests
  • Process referrals to specialists and ancillary services
  • Obtain insurance prior authorizations and precertifications
  • Assist with medical record requests and releases
  • Support patient registration and care coordination activities as needed
Patient & Family Support
  • Educate patients and caregivers on medications, immunizations, treatment plans, and preventive care according to clinic policy
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients and families
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and understanding of varying developmental stages and cultural backgrounds
  • Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for children and families
Compliance & Quality
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards
  • Follow OSHA guidelines, infection prevention practices, and PPE requirements
  • Adhere to Mercy Quality and Safety policies
  • Participate in competency reviews of other Medical Assistants when a Lead MA is unavailable
  • Maintain clinical competencies and required certifications
Qualifications
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced pediatric environment
  • Commitment to compassionate, family-centered care
Preferred
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • One year of patient care or medical office experience
  • Experience administering vaccines and caring for pediatric patients
  • Experience with referrals, insurance authorizations, and electronic medical records
Training Requirements
  • New hires must successfully complete Mercy's Medical Assistant Clinic Academy training program.
  • Medical Assistants advancing through the career ladder must complete required MA competencies.
