Qualifications

• Medical Assistant/Relations Associate role in clinical settings.
• BLS certification or Heart Saver from AHA.
• Phlebotomist or EKG technician credentials preferred.
• Medical Assistant Certification required by national standard.

Responsibilities

• Performs EKGs as ordered by physician
• Performs lab testing as ordered by physician
• Performs PFT as ordered by physician
• Admits patient, takes vital signs, medical history and allergy history
• Maintains clean and orderly examination rooms
• Registers and transacts patients using EMR
• Updates patient insurance and eligibility information
• Schedules patient appointments
• Documents lab results and treatment as required
• Notifies physician of patient emergencies
• Retains accountability for cash handling and ledger reconciliation
• Communicates with other departments as needed
• Forwards relevant information to specialty offices (labs, referrals, imaging)
• Verifies insurance coverage and eligibility with insurers
• Reconciles daily ledger and monetary transactions
• Adheres to universal precautions and OSHA regulations
• Maintains patient records and ensures accurate daily ledgers
• Balances and reports all monies received
• Scans paperwork into EMR in a timely fashion
• Provides timely follow-up on patient calls
• Notifies Practice/Office Manager of office problems or supply needs
• Collaborates with physicians and staff to ensure smooth operations
• Supports uncovered shifts when needed
• Confirms appointments and communicates changes to patients
• Updates patient demographics in the system
