Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Graduate of medical assisting program preferred.
• Certified or Registered Medical Assistant certification required (CMA/ RMA/ ABR-OE).
• Minimum of one-year work experience in public contact job. Preferable in a medical office environment.
• Knowledge of the health care field and information that must be conveyed to patients and their families.
• Skill in communicating clearly and empathetically with patients and families.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with physicians, co-workers, patients and families.

Responsibilities

• Comply with HIPAA and OSHA regulations and policies.
• Fulfill patient care responsibilities: check schedules and organize patient flow; accompany patients to exam/procedure room; assist with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam; collect patient history; perform screenings; assist with procedures; chart and relay instructions to patients/families; answer calls.
• Fulfill clerical responsibilities: sending/receiving medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports; completing forms; scheduling appointments; verifying insurance coverage and patient demographics; managing charts.
• Maintain environmental responsibilities: set up instruments; clean exam/procedure rooms; clean sterilizer; order, sort, store supplies; restock rooms.
• Fulfill organizational responsibilities: respect patient rights; respond to emergency codes; communicate issues to supervisors.
• Other duties as assigned.
