Qualifications

• Graduate from an accredited medical assisting program; one year in a medical office preferred.
• BLS certification through the American Heart Association for Healthcare Providers is required.
• Medical Assistant certification preferred.
• Experience in medical assisting and patient care procedures.
• Knowledge of safety hazards, OSHA standards, and HIPAA compliance.
• Strong computer and customer service skills; detail oriented and self-motivated.

Responsibilities

• Obtain and document vital signs and lab work.
• Prepare patients for examination and testing.
• Enter lab and imaging orders under provider supervision.
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
• Process lab requisitions and coding as needed.
• Update patient records in the electronic health record.
• Answer phones and schedule appointments.
• Remove sutures and dressings as appropriate.
• Chaperone clinician during patient visits when required.
• Document visits accurately and timely.
• Follow up on overdue results and reconcile orders.
• Sterilize instruments per OSHA guidelines and maintain a safe environment.
