Job summary

Albuquerque Health Care for the Homeless is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant to join our team. The MA will rotate through outreach, clinic, and administrative shifts, supporting care for underserved populations and connecting clients to resources.

Ideal candidates will have completed a Medical Assistant program and have experience in an outreach or Federally Qualified Health Center setting, with bilingual Spanish/English considered a plus.

Qualifications

• 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant (preferred).

Responsibilities

More than 5,000 people each year find support through our integrated model of care, but our impact extends far beyond the walls of our clinic. Do you have a passion for client care? We may be the right fit for you! We are currently looking for an upbeat medical assistant to join our team. Our ideal candidate would be a team player and have previous experience in an underserved population. Compassion for and an understanding of the wide variety of issues for those experiencing homelessness is a must.

Our MA team works in rotating schedules doing Outreach work in the field, in the Clinic, and on designated Administrative shifts. We work from a harm reduction model and believe in meeting people where they are at. We view client care holistically and connect clients to various resources within our organization and without.

Our team is very passionate about public health and our population.

We comply with all OSHA and CDC guidelines regarding PPE and have various procedures in place to safeguard employees.

This is a part-time, non-exempt position.

We have two part-time(24 hrs./weekly) MA positions available in the AHCH clinic, which is located at 1217 1st St NW.

Tentative schedule: Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday - 7:30am - 4:00pm.

*The only exception to these hours is a required once a month Friday night medical and harm reduction team outreach from 2-6pm.*

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Room patients, take basic medical history and vital signs,
• Assist providers in various procedures
• Perform wound care, injections/immunization, and lab procedures- blood draws, specimen preparation and handling
• Prepare and stock examination rooms
• Participate in medical outreaches in the Bernalillo County service area

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ability to thrive in a complex healthcare setting
• Working knowledge of medical procedures, terminology, and anatomy
• Experience documenting services in an electronic health record
• Completion of a Medical Assistant program
• Experience as a Medical Assistant

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant
• Previous experience with outreach/street medicine
• Experience with under-served populations, those with serious mental illness/chronic mental illness, and/or substance use disorder
• Previous experience working in a Federally Qualified Health Center
• Bilingual Spanish/English
