Job summary

Star Valley Health's Orthopedic Clinic in Afton, WY is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant (24-35 hrs/wk). Starting pay is $17.15/hour, commensurate with experience and certification.

The role combines clinical and administrative duties to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate documentation in a team-oriented environment. The Medical Assistant supports orthopedic physicians, rooms patients, collects vital signs, assists with injections, manages EMR documentation, and coordinates scheduling

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) desired.
  • Basic computer proficiency (MS Office, internet).
  • Knowledge of medical office practices and clinical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Support orthopedic providers with clinical and administrative duties to keep clinic operations smooth.
  • Room patients, take vitals and document chief complaints and medication reconciliation.
  • Assist with procedures under supervision, including injections.
  • Maintain accurate EMR documentation and test results.
  • Coordinate scheduling, referrals, and ancillary services.
  • Handle phone calls, greet patients, and provide courteous service.
  • Process electronic prescriptions and communicate test results to patients.
  • Help manage patient flow to keep providers on schedule.
  • Keep exam rooms clean, stocked, and organized.

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting orthopedic physicians and care teams by providing both direct and indirect patient care. This position combines clinical, administrative, and clerical responsibilities to ensure efficient patient flow, accurate documentation, and an excellent patient experience.

This is an at-will position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support providers with clinical and administrative duties to ensure smooth clinic operations
  • Room patients and collect clinical information, including chief complaints, vital signs, and medication reconciliation
  • Assist with procedures and treatments under provider supervision, including injections
  • Maintain accurate patient records and document test results in the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Assist with patient scheduling, referrals, correspondence, and arranging ancillary services
  • Answer phones, greet patients, and provide excellent customer service
  • Send electronic prescriptions to providers for approval and communicate test results to patients as directed
  • Help manage patient flow to keep providers on schedule
  • Maintain exam rooms, order supplies as needed, and ensure a clean, safe, and organized work environment
  • Use and understand medical terminology related to orthopedic care
  • Attend required meetings, training sessions, and continuing education
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on clinic needs

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Prior medical training or clinical experience
  • CPR Certification (required)
  • Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and internet use
  • Knowledge of medical office practices, exam room procedures, and clinical equipment

Preferred (But Not Required)

  • Experience in an orthopedic or specialty clinic
  • Medical Assistant certification
  • Previous experience administering injections
