Job summary

Grand Lake Health System in Saint Marys, OH is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant to support a patient-centered medical home in our outpatient practice.

You will greet patients, perform basic clinical tasks, document in the EMR, and collaborate with physicians and the health team. Candidates should have MA training and CMA certification; prior practice is welcome but not required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or will graduate within 6 months of hire.
• Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA or other certifying body.
• Experience in medical practice preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Greet and escort patients through the practice.
• Complete history and document in EMR.
• Collaborate with physicians and health team per orders.
• Support patient-centered medical home approach.
• Document care and assess patient response to plan.
• Communicate with patients, physicians and team.
• Liaise with outside agencies; maintain patient confidentiality.

• Assist in care and maintenance of equipment.

Duties and Key Responsibilities

• Greets and escorts patients through the medical practice.
• Completes clinical assessments of patients by completing history of present disease and illnesses with accuracy and documents appropriately in patient electronic medical record.
• Collaborates with physicians and other health team members in implementing physician orders.
• Incorporates holistic approach to Patient Centered Medical Home, thus moving beyond problem focused care.
• Implements and documents clinical and technical aspects of care.
• Evaluates patient’s response and understanding to plan of care by using teach back method.
• Openly and appropriately communicates with patients, physicians, and other members of health team.
• Serves as a liaison for patients with outside agencies, businesses, and providers, establishing a therapeutic relationship with the patient and family.
• Respect’s patient’s rights to privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
• Maintains positive interpersonal relationships with all internal and external customers.
• Maintains established health system and work area policies and procedures, objectives, guest relations, safety, environmental and infection control guidelines.
• Assists in care and maintenance of work area equipment and supplies.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Basic clinical skills delivering patient care and clerical skills in an outpatient setting.
• Obtains and maintains successful completion of BCLS Healthcare Provider Course.
• Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, physicians, coworkers, and public.

Education/Certifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program or will be graduating within 6 months of hire.
• Certified Medical Assistant through AAMA or other certifying body as deemed acceptable by the Practice Manager or will obtain this credentialing within 6 months of hire.

Experience

• Previous medical practice experience preferred but not required.
