Job Description

New England Cancer Specialists (NECS) is currently seeking a full-time 32-hour Certified Medical Assistant to join our Kennebunk, ME location. The Certified Medical Assistant will provide top-line care to patients with cancer and blood disorders. Responsibilities include rooming patients, taking vital signs, reviewing symptoms forms, medication review, assisting in the infusion center, and phlebotomy. The CMA will work within a team including a physician, APP, nurse navigator, and a care coordinator.

NECS is a private practice with fifteen oncologists and hematologists across Maine and New Hampshire. Our mission is to improve lives affected by cancer and blood disorders, emphasizing kindness, compassion, and respect. We are the first Dana Farber Affiliate practice, committed to high-quality, holistic patient care.

Job Duties
  • Set up examination rooms, stock supplies, and maintain cleanliness.
  • Greet and room patients, obtain vital signs.
  • Operate under HIPAA guidelines, disclose information professionally.
  • Report abnormal vital signs for immediate intervention.
  • Reconcile medications and allergies in EMR.
  • Assist with and record patient assessments in EMR.
  • Perform lab work and draw blood specimens.
  • Assist with examinations and procedures, including biopsies and lumbar punctures.
  • Perform EKGs as ordered.
  • Follow departmental policies, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Perform administrative duties like scheduling, documentation, and record requests.
Work Schedule and Travel

Monday-Friday, no late nights. Participation in weekend urgent care in Scarborough, ME, 4-5 times/year, scheduled in advance. Periodic travel to other NECS locations may be required.

Qualifications
  • Degree or Certificate in Medical Assisting from an accredited school.
  • Credentialing within 90 days: CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, NRCMA, or RMA from ARMA.
  • 2+ years of clinical and administrative experience preferred; training available for dedicated newcomers.
  • Experience with insurance prior-authorizations, medication refills, chart preparation.
  • Active BLS card preferred.
  • Ability to understand medical records, orders, and maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Strong communication and typing skills.
  • Adaptability to work in front of patients or at workstations outside the clinic.
