Job summary

MedStar Health is hiring a Medical Assistant to perform clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under physician/provider supervision. The role may float to other MedStar sites within the system and requires 6 months of experience with excellent customer service and patient interaction. The schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:30 a.m.

to 5 p.m. Location: 10401 Hospital Dr., Clinton, MD 20735 with travel to Leonardtown and Prince Frederick offices in Calvert County.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• 6 months or more experience in ambulatory care medical office or equivalent.
• Externship in a medical/ambulatory health setting strongly preferred; completed externship may substitute for 6 months experience.
• CMA‑AAMA or RMA certification within 1 year is required; CPR certification within 90 days.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical duties such as venipuncture, medication and vaccine administration, and measurement of vital signs.
• Assist providers with patient exams and telephone/clerical support.
• Provide administrative support and document patient information accurately.
• Float to other sites within the MedStar Health system as needed.

The Medical Assistant performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties may include venipuncture medication and vaccine administration measurement and documentation of vital signs and assisting providers with patient exams and telephone and clerical support. Position may float to other sites/locations within the system.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. -5 p.m.

Location: 10401 Hospital Dr. Clinton, Maryland 20735 (will also travel to Leonardtown and Prince Frederick office in Calvert County)

The ideal candidates will have 6 months of experience as a Medical Assistant with excellent customer service/patient interaction skills.

Minimal Qualifications

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required and
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred

Experience

• 6 months or more experience working in an ambulatory care medical office or equivalent required. Externship in a medical or ambulatory health setting strongly preferred. Completed externship program at MedStar Health may be substituted for the 6 months experience in ambulatory care medical office.

Licenses and Certifications

• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA by the American Association of Medical Assistants within 1 Year required or
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)-American Medical Technologists through American Medical Technologists or equivalent within 1 Year required
• CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation (includes BLS and NRP) for healthcare providers from either the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross within 90 Days required and
• Additional unit/specialty certifications may vary by department or business unit.
