Job summary

Duke University Health System in Durham, NC, is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the NCEENT of North Durham clinic as a valued member of the healthcare team, providing direct and indirect patient care.

The successful candidate will have completed an accredited Medical Assistant program (or be pursuing certification within 18 months) and possess strong attention to detail in exam preparation, data collection, and specimen handling.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED graduation required.
  • Work generally requires six months of experience in the healthcare setting. Education in a health related field can be used as a substitute for the experience.
  • Must be fully certified as a Medical Assistant (AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA) within 18 months of hire
  • Interest in pursuing Ophthalmic Assistant within 12 month of hire preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of routine duties in a hospital clinic to assist medical and nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients to include obtaining and recording data for medical records, collecting and preparing specimens for laboratory analysis and undressing, cleansing and positioning patients for specific procedures.
  • Perform routine examination and treatment procedures to include administering enemas, removing casts, cleaning wounds and applying medications and dressings. Set up and clean examination rooms to include changing linen and making beds; set up instruments and equipment for specific procedures; hand instruments, supplies and equipment to examining physician.
  • Pick up and deliver specimens, equipment, messages and supplies as directed; maintain inventory of supplies in examination rooms, replenish as required.
  • Escort and transport patients to various hospital locations; schedule patient appointments and prepare related records. Maintain work area in clean and orderly condition; wash and sterilize a variety of medical supplies. Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Job Summary
