Overview
In collaboration with patients, families (as defined by the patient), and staff across all disciplines and departments, the Medical Assistant / Medical Administrative Clerk is responsible for performing selected clinical duties, including administrative/clerical tasks and basic patient care.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties
- Interview patients, record patient history, and measure vital signs such as height, weight, BMI, head circumference, current medications, pulse oximetry level, and patient comfort level.
- Verify patient information (demographics, insurance, vitals, medications), complete the intake process, and enter data into EHR/EP systems.
- Perform front office duties: greet and assist patients courteously, answer calls, verify patient information, etc.
- Collect, perform, document, and report results of CLIA-waived lab tests (urine dip, pregnancy tests, blood glucose, fecal occult blood, rapid influenza, rapid strep).
- Collect, prepare, and document specimen collection (blood, urine, stool, sputum).
- Assist with clinical duties such as preparing patients for exams, assisting providers, setting up rooms, and sterilizing instruments.
- Prepare charts according to the provider’s schedule.
- Administer medications as per MA formulary.
- Dismiss patients at the end of visits.
- Participate in orientation and mandatory meetings.
- Work as part of a team, communicating effectively with staff, patients, and providers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Primary Accountabilities
- Ensure all patient care and administrative documentation is current and complete.
- Attend daily huddles, meetings, patient conferences, and planning sessions.
- Maintain licensure and certifications through continuing education.
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives and ensure compliance with standards (e.g., The Joint Commission).
- Interact respectfully with patients and families to foster positive relationships.
- Collaborate with the care team to provide patient-centered care.

Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one year of experience in an administrative role.
- Certificate from a Medical Assistant Program or equivalent military healthcare experience.
- Current CPR certification from American Heart Association or Red Cross, maintained throughout employment.
