A leading healthcare provider is seeking a Medical Assistant to deliver high-quality patient care. This role involves direct patient interaction, documentation, and collaboration with healthcare professionals. Candidates should be certified or willing to obtain certification within a year. Medical Assistants are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled clinical professional working within the scope of practice and in alignment with standards of excellence and quality. The Medical Assistant provides indirect and/or direct patient care under the provider's direction.
Under the provider's supervision, the Medical Assistant contributes to completing the patient’s chief complaint (including respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and temperature) and documents patient/family needs. They identify significant changes in patient condition through data collection and report them to the provider. They understand and adhere to legal responsibilities within the Medical Assistant role.
They participate in planning and implementing patient care within the scope of Medical Assisting practice, troubleshoot issues, and escalate problems as needed. They demonstrate standards of excellence in all interactions with both internal and external customers.
Within scope and state guidelines, they administer ordered medications and vaccines via oral, injection, or topical methods as directed. They may perform casting duties according to state regulations and certification requirements.
They document accurately in the EMR, manage My Chart requests, handle incoming patient calls, and manage in-basket messages following provider instructions.
Additional duties include ordering supplies, tracking referrals, labs, and diagnostic tests, and disposing of contaminated supplies.
Certification in Medical Assisting (required within 12 months of employment): Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assisting), Registered Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologists), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (National Healthcareer Association), or National Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing). If unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable within the same timeframe.
BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, required before independent patient care).
High school diploma preferred; vocational/technical degree in medical assisting preferred. Enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program is required within 30 days of employment.
One year of healthcare experience or 24 months of clerical physician practice experience preferred.
