Medical Assistant - MA, EMT, AEMT - Cardiology

This position provides assistive care to patients, facilitating efficient delivery of care, supporting licensed staff, and providing basic healthcare assistance. It also involves clerical functions as a multi-skilled auxiliary worker. The role may include access to and administration of medications within scope and legal guidelines.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for examinations and diagnostic procedures, including recording vital signs and medical history responses.
  • Report patient concerns and changes in condition to licensed staff.
  • Perform CLIA Waved Lab tests as identified and report results appropriately.
  • Perform skills such as suture removal, catheterization, and injections (IM, Subq, intra-dermal).
  • Act as a chaperone during examinations and assist with procedures.
  • Maintain and restock examination rooms and equipment, report outdated supplies and repairs.
  • Handle telephones, schedule appointments, procedures, and tests under supervision.
  • Assist with clerical tasks like filing, chart retrieval, and billing data entry.
  • Complete mandatory education on infection control, safety, CPR, and equipment use.
  • Perform patient phlebotomies after training, if qualified.
  • Assist with diagnostic procedures using leads and monitors under supervision.
  • Provide educational materials and health information to patients and families.
  • Transport patients as directed.
  • Instruct in Basic Life Support (BLS) and perform IV access if qualified.
  • Perform other department-specific duties as assigned.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Ability to perform essential functions listed above.
  • Proven phlebotomy skills.
  • Effective communication and human relation skills.
  • Proficiency in clinic-specific skills within six weeks of hire.
  • Physical ability to stand for long periods, move and lift patients/equipment.
Qualifications

Licenses Required

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential within 30 days of hire.
  • One of the following certifications: NCMA, RMA, ABR-OE, CMA, Paramedic, Advanced EMT, Clinical Medical Assistant, NRCMA, or equivalent.

*Additional licenses may be required by the department.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Position involves physical activity including lifting up to 50 pounds, exposure to infectious materials, and working around potentially dangerous contaminants.
