CHCP seeks a Medical Assistant Laboratory Skills Instructor for a hybrid, part-time online service with onsite Austin location requirements. The instructor will teach theory and practical skills across classroom, practicum, and simulation settings, track student progress, and mentor learners per program standards.

Responsibilities include supervising lab/clinical activities, assessing competency, and ensuring safety and quality in demonstrations, CPR instruction, and lab workflows.

Qualifications

  • Degree or post-secondary education and related experience to meet state (TWC) and ABHES requirements.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years practical teaching experience preferred.
  • CurrentCertification/licensure as Medical Assistant, LVN, RN, or MD.
  • Current Basic Life Support Provider‑Instructor Certification through the American Heart Association.
  • 1 year teaching experience in healthcare or higher education; CPR‑AHA‑Provider certification; MA license.

Job Title: Medical Assistant Laboratory Skills Instructor
HYBRID- Part Time

Location: Online Services- MUST BE LOCATED IN AUSTIN

Summary: The Laboratory Skills Instructor works under the direction of the Program Director. Teaches theory and practical applications using instructional methods and teaching skills in the classroom, clinical practicum, simulation and skills laboratory tracking. Primary functions include: student attendance and progress, setting educational objectives for the students, on-going mentoring and attention to the continued needs of the students, maintaining a satisfactory working relationship with our students, faculty, and staff. Participate in training, preparation, and continuing education in instructional methods and teaching skills.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Classroom Skills Instruction
  • Teaches assigned number of classes using the prescribed courses of study with established texts and/or prescribed instructional materials.
  • Maintains classroom in good physical order.
  • Responsible and accountable for supervising students in a laboratory and/or clinical setting for respective course(s).
  • Review and order proper medical supplies for laboratory experience
  • Provide hands-on instruction for students via demonstration.
  • Assess learning by evaluating competency with return demonstrations.
  • Sign, date, and provide feedback for each student skills checklist as required
  • Manages simulation scenarios and evaluates student responses.
  • Manage CPR instruction in accordance with American Heart Association guidelines
Medical Assisting Skills
  • Patient communication and human relations
  • Phlebotomy (venous, capillary draws and centrifuge)
  • ECG and Peak Flow Monitoring
  • Suture removal
  • Injections (subcutaneous, intradermal, intramuscular)
  • Obtaining vital signs and measurements (height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, respiratory rate, pulse, pulse oximetry)
  • Triage, critical thinking and patient documentation
  • Perform point of care testing (HCG, Mono, Strep, Urinalysis, Blood Glucose, Hematocrit)
  • Obtain and prepare lab specimens for transport
  • Assistance with general and specialized examinations (i.e., gynecological exams)
  • CPR (Basic Life Support-Provider)
  • Sterile instrument decontamination, wrapping, and sterilization

  • Aseptic and Sterile Technique (handwashing, decontamination)
  • PPE use, maintenance, and disposal
  • Safety, Biohazard waste disposal and sharps management
  • Mandated reporting of communicable disease
Qualifications
  • Degree or post‑secondary education and relative experience to meet state (TWC) and ABHES accreditation requirements.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years practical experience with teaching experience preferred.
  • Current certification, registration, and/or licensure as a Medical Assistant, Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), Registered Nurse (RN), Medical Doctor (M.D.)
  • Current Basic Life Support Provider‑Instructor Certification through the American Heart Association
  • 1 year teaching experience in healthcare or higher ed. CPR-AHA-Provider certification. Current CPR and MA (or nursing/healthcare practitioner) certification/license.
