Job summary

Beacon Health System in South Bend, IN is offering an 8-month Medical Assistant Intern I program. Reports to Practice Manager and works under Clinical Supervisor and/or Office Supervisor/Clinic Coordinator.

The internship combines classroom training with patient care duties and is paid. Under supervision, you will perform clerical tasks, assist with basic patient care, enter data into the EMR, greet patients, take vital signs, prepare for examinations, and support the care team.

Qualifications

• The knowledge, skills and abilities are obtained through completing a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be at least 17 years old.
• Spanish language ability is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and visitors professionally and provide assistance as needed.
• Receive calls, relay messages accurately and obtain patient information for records and payments.
• Maintain patient files, charts and records; escort patients to exam rooms.
• Enter data into electronic medical records and document medical history.
• Prepare patients for examinations and assist with minor procedures as directed.
• Perform routine laboratory and EKG tests as ordered and collect specimens as needed.
• Clean and disinfect exam rooms and equipment; check stock in exam rooms.
• Provide educational materials about diagnoses, treatments, and options to patients and families.
• Manage medication refills and ensure proper dosing per provider instructions.
• Preload patient information into the EMR, including testing and past history.
