Job summary

Nemours-Children is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient flow, collect clinical data, and assist with vaccines and procedures in an outpatient setting. The MA coordinates with providers and care teams to ensure accurate documentation and timely care.

Responsibilities include rooming patients, obtaining vitals, documenting visit reasons, and performing point-of-care testing. BLS certification within 90 days is required; CMA/RMA/NCMA/CCMA certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience as a Medical Assistant strongly preferred.
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred: CMA, RMA, NCMA, CCMA.
  • BLS certification with the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of start date.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients and families at the clinical setting.
  • Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers (name and date of birth).
  • Prepares exam rooms, clinic equipment and computer technology by maintaining inventory and supplies for the outpatient visit.
  • Rooms patient ensuring appropriate documents are with the patient, including required diagnostic reports.
  • Receive, unpack, store, inventory, transport non-controlled medications and clinic supplies.
  • Performs clinical duties to support the outpatient visit including obtaining vitals, documenting reason for visit, initiating orders, assisting with examination, performing point of care testing, administering vaccines, collecting specimens, and operating equipment.
  • Act as a liaison between support services, other clinical divisions, and patient regarding care and status of wait times.
  • Make confirmation calls to ensure visits are in ‘confirmed’ status prior to visit.

Job description

The Medical Assistant (MA) is an important liaison between the patient/family, provider, and other care team members. The MA is responsible for coordinating patient flow by assisting in clinical data collection and review for patient intake, ensuring the appropriate information is available to the provider, and entering pertinent history in the medical record. The MA performs and assists with clinical procedures in accordance with divisional/department responsibilities as directed by the provider and per protocol.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Greets patients and families at the clinical setting according to Nemours Standards of Behavior.
  • Verifies patient identity using two patient identifiers (name and date of birth).
  • Prepares exam rooms, clinic equipment and computer technology by maintaining inventory and supplies for the outpatient visit.
  • Rooms patient ensuring appropriate documents are with the patient, including required diagnostic reports.
  • Receive, unpack, store, inventory, transport non-controlled medications and clinic supplies
  • Performs clinical duties to support the outpatient visit to include, but not limited to the following:
    1. Obtain and document height, weight, head circumference and vital signs.
    2. Documents reason for visit, chief complaint and initiates orders defined using smart sets as appropriate for scope of service and Nemours’ protocol.
    3. Assist with patient examination/treatment.
    4. Perform and document point of care testing, and controls.
    5. Administers and documents vaccines and approved medications as defined by policy as ordered and provides vaccine records to families
    6. Perform and collect routine laboratory specimens
    7. Operate required medical equipment.
    8. Assist in the flow of patient care
  • Act as a liaison between support services, other clinical divisions, and patient regarding care and status of wait times.
  • Make confirmation calls that are not completed by automated systems to ensure all visits are in ‘confirmed’ status prior to visit or per Department protocol.
Qualifications:
  • Experience as a Medical Assistant strongly preferred
  • Successful completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred
  • Medical Assistant Certification preferred: acceptable certifications are Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) and Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)
  • BLS certification with the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of start date
