GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:The Medical Assistant II provides advanced clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers and patients. This role involves a combination of patient care, administrative duties, and the management of complex tasks in the medical office or clinical setting.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Clinical Support:

  • Assist in the preparation and examination of patients, including taking vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, temperature, weight).
  • Administer medications or injections as prescribed by the physician.
  • Prepare and manage medical equipment and instruments.
  • Prepare and maintain patient records, ensuring all data is accurate and up to date.
  • Sterilize and disinfect medical instruments and equipment.
  • Assist in minor surgeries or procedures, maintaining sterile techniques.

Administrative Duties:

  • Schedule patient appointments, manage patient flow, and coordinate with other healthcare providers.
  • Handle medical billing and coding tasks, ensuring compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Verify patient insurance details and obtain necessary pre-authorization for treatments or procedures.
  • Process patient intake forms and ensure accurate medical records.
  • Provide patient education regarding treatment plans, procedures, and medications.
  • Communicate effectively with patients regarding appointments, test results, and follow‑up care.
  • Address patient inquiries, providing information on health services and assisting with any concerns.
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and privacy in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Maintain and ensure compliance with health regulations, safety protocols, and the standards of the healthcare facility.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care.
  • Perform JCAHO and OSHA related duties as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned by the Clinic Site Manager

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent or an AA Degree.
  • Requires 3-5 years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited MA Program with phlebotomy being a part of the program (CMA or equivalent) preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of clinical procedures, medical terminology, and patient care practices.
  • Proficiency in medical software, office equipment, and electronic health records (EHR).
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, handle multiple priorities, and work effectively in a team.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:Candidate must be a Medical Assistant. All candidates will be required to submit to a criminal

background check and screening as part of pre‑employment.
