Job summary

Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee seeks a Medical Assistant I in the Department of Plastic Surgery to support efficient clinic flow and high-quality patient care. Work schedule is Monday–Friday, 8:00–4:30 PM, with responsibilities spanning patient greeting, registration, scheduling, room preparation, vital signs, and medical record updates.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of patient care experience or graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Knowledge of biology, clinical judgment, and medical documentation is important.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and register clinic patients, updating registration information and referrals or authorizations as needed.
  • Schedule clinic appointments and ancillary tests, and maintain scheduling information.
  • Prepare patient exam rooms and equipment using aseptic and sterile techniques.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, obtain brief history and vital signs, and update medical records for physician review.
  • Receive and route incoming clinic calls, record messages, and distribute to appropriate area.
  • Clean and stock patient exam rooms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Summary

As a Medical Assistant I in the Department of Plastic Surgery, under the direction of clinic leadership, you will facilitate efficient clinic flow by maintaining excellent patient care and customer service. Work schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 4:30PM

Primary Responsibilities
  • Greet and register clinic patients. Obtain and/or update registration information and referrals or authorizations as necessary.
  • Schedule clinic appointments, ancillary tests and maintain appropriate scheduling information.
  • Prepare patient exam rooms and equipment and select instruments using aseptic and sterile techniques.
  • Escort patient to exam room, obtain brief history and vital signs. Update medical records for physician review.
  • Receive and route incoming clinic phone calls to appropriate area. When necessary, record accurate messages and distribute to appropriate area.
  • Clean and stock patient exam rooms.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge - Skills - Abilities
  • Knowledge of biology, clinical judgment, medicine, cultural awareness, and consulting.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum Required Experience: Two years patient care experience or graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
