Job Summary:
We seek Medical Assistants motivated to provide excellent patient experiences and to play a vital role in patient-centered care by working at the top of their scope of practice. Major Areas of Responsibility:
- Prepare treatment rooms and set up laboratory equipment.
- Verify patient visit purpose and record medical history in the EHR system.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
- Prepare patients for exams with preliminary tests and vital signs.
- Communicate effectively with patients and team members.
- Perform routine medical tasks such as vision tests, urine dipstick tests, pregnancy tests, hearing tests, blood glucose testing, hemoglobin A1C testing, sputum collections, oral HIV tests, and specimen collection.
- Assist in collecting and logging laboratory specimens.
- Conduct specialized procedures under clinician supervision, such as nebulizer treatments, spirometry, suture removal, and wound care.
- Coordinate patient flow for optimal access and service.
- Clean, sterilize, and dispose of medical supplies and equipment.
- Explain and translate treatment procedures and instructions to patients.
- Schedule follow-up and recall appointments.
- Assist providers during examinations and treatments.
- Prepare and administer medications and injections as directed.
- Provide prescription information to pharmacies.
- Participate in panel management and population health initiatives using relevant software.
- Complete patient visit documentation accurately.
- Administer immunizations and document in the EHR.
- Ensure all records and logs are complete and accurate.
- Educate patients and provide follow-up care instructions.

General Office Duties:
- Schedule appointments, answer phones, and handle administrative tasks.
- Manage EHR requests and patient check-in procedures.
- Coordinate with medical facilities for tests and appointments.
- Manage supplies and equipment maintenance.
- Record and update medical records accurately.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Basic medical assisting skills and equipment knowledge.
- Understanding of medical terminology, chronic conditions, and health education.
- Proficiency with electronic health records and computer applications.
- Ability to administer skin tests and injections safely.
- Physical ability to lift, move, and reposition patients and equipment.
- Knowledge of sterilization and cleaning techniques.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish or other languages as needed.
- Flexibility and adaptability to change.
- Ability to work professionally in a team and communicate effectively.
- Comfort with patient interactions and education.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to work weekends and evenings on a rotation basis.
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Current BLS certification (with 30-day grace period).
- For MA-I: Completion of an accredited training program, or one year of relevant experience with competencies signed off within 90 days, or on-the-job training with competencies signed off within 90 days.
- For MA-II: Certification from AAMA, AMT, CCMA, NRCMA, or other approved certifying bodies.
- Preferred: Phlebotomy certification.
- Health clearances and immunizations are required.
- Bilingual skills as needed for patient population.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged standing and sitting.
- Ability to lift and move objects up to 15 pounds or more occasionally.
- Repetitive motions involving neck, wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Reaching above shoulder and below waist levels.
