Job summary

Mercy Medical Center Redding is seeking a Medical Assistant to help keep daily operations smooth, supporting patients and clinical staff in a fast-paced setting.

You will proactively prepare patient charts, collect data, and assist with a variety of clinical tasks while maintaining patient comfort and safety. A strong emphasis on empathy and efficiency is required, with room to grow through certifications.

Qualifications

  • One year experience in an outpatient medical office or physician clinic setting.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR

Responsibilities

  • Assists in delivering direct patient care under RN or licensed practitioner oversight.
  • Obtains labs, vital signs, chief complaint, allergies, and patient contact info; updates charts.
  • Documents patient care activities and data in the chart or information system.
  • Maintains clean exam rooms and prepares equipment for central supply.
  • Performs skills such as vital signs, aseptic technique, non-invasive specimen collection, spirometry, hearing/vision tests and EKGs.
  • Observes patients for significant changes and alerts RN/Prac immediately.

Job description

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Medical Assistant, you'll keep the day running smoothly and efficiently for your patients and clinical team.

Every day, you will take the lead on proactively preparing patient charts, ensuring all information is obtained and up-to-date for those seen in our facility. You can expect to have multiple patients daily depending on the number of physicians are on-site.

Your success in this role comes from your enthusiasm to help others, work efficiently, and your empathy for our patients.

  • Assists in the delivery of direct patient care under the oversight of a Registered Nurse and/or licensed medical practitioner and receives written and/or oral assignments and direction.
  • Obtains labs or procedure results, if not in chart, vital signs, chief complaint, reason for visit, allergies, current phone number and family list.
  • Documents patient care activities and patient data accurately using appropriate documentation forms and/or information systems.
  • Ensures exam rooms are clean which includes cleaning surgical equipment, preparing for delivery to central supply and disinfecting all patient contact equipment.
  • Performs required skills such as, but not limited to, vital sign measurement, aseptic technique, non-invasive specimen collection, spirometry, hearing testing, vision testing and EKGs, etc.
  • Observes patients carefully for significant changes and alerts RN and/or Practitioner immediately as appropriate.
Job Requirements
Required
  • One year experience in a outpatient medical office or physician clinic setting
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR
Preferred
  • Associates in a related field and
  • Two years experience in a clinical setting
  • Medical Assistant Certification: CA, or
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, or
  • Certified Medical Assistant AAMA, or
  • Certified Medical Assistant NHA, or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant NCCT, or
  • National Registered/Certified Medical Assistant NAHP, or
  • Registered Medical Assistant AMT, or
  • Registered Medical Assistant, or
  • Cert Med Asst - MMCI
