Qualifications

Job description

Position Overview

A successful Medical Assistant must be passionate about healthcare and want to make a difference in the lives of others while acting as a mission-driven catalyst to help Livingston Community Health deliver the best quality of care and excellent service to our patients and their families.

The Medical Assistant (MA) reports directly to the Back Office Supervisor (BOS). The MA provides nursing assistance to multi-specialty LCH clinical providers, including but not limited to administration of injections, assisting with procedures, taking vital signs, vision and hearing tests, patient education, and necessary EHR chart work. The Medical Assistant will assist with clerical functions and help update and maintain accurate medical records. The MA operates under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and the direct supervision of the Back Office Supervisor.

Essential Functions, Duties, And Responsibilities

  • Provide quality customer service with a positive attitude.
  • Ensure patient demographics are current and accurate at each visit.
  • Obtain and document vital signs in the EHR: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, oxygen saturation, pain level, last menstrual period.
  • Follow LCH's Patient Intake workflow based on visit type.
  • Perform screening tests as necessary, such as vision and hearing tests.
  • Reconcile allergy, medication, and problem lists at each visit.
  • Accurately complete social, family, medical/surgical history, and preventative health information in the EHR.
  • Assist clinical staff with examination procedures.
  • Use Standing Orders to administer, order, or schedule tests, medications, or referrals.
  • Administer medications and immunizations following LCH policies.
  • Update patient charts with immunization history and lab results.
  • Complete lab orders as indicated.
  • Sterilize medical instruments and equipment per policy.
  • Track and document procedures like pap smears, immunizations, and breast exams.
  • Perform procedures ordered by providers, including wound care, splints, airway treatments, ear lavages, EKGs, NSTs, and sterile procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in the EHR.
  • Monitor patient flow continuously.
  • Prepare forms to meet payer, state, and federal requirements.
  • Adhere to clinic policies and protocols.
  • Review EHR and Outlook Inbox daily, addressing tasks within 24 hours.
  • Conduct quality controls and checks regularly.
  • Support inventory management for medications, vaccines, and supplies.
  • Ensure clinic safety and maintain facilities.
  • Maintain patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA.
  • Perform autoclave protocols, including weekly maintenance and monthly spore testing.
  • During rooming, ask patients for any completed forms from the Front Office.
  • Review daily quality reports and administer missing patient metrics during visits.
  • Complete handoffs and referrals for health education.
  • Provide clinical support at other LCH sites as required.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

Education:
  • Medical Assistant Certificate from a certified school.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Current BLS CPR Certification.
