The Medical Assistant I, under general supervision, provides direct patient care and clinical support in an outpatient primary care setting. The role includes assisting clinicians with patient visits, obtaining and documenting vital signs and medical histories, and performing basic clinical procedures such as injections and medication administration. The Medical Assistant I also serves as a medical instrument technician, responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and stocking medical instruments, equipment, and exam rooms to ensure a safe and efficient clinical environment.
Salary: Commensurate based on selected candidates experience.
Standard work hours for this position are 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday, with holidays off.
Occasional after-hour duties may be required.
Required Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years of relevant experience in customer service in a healthcare setting, including work as a medical receptionist or roles involving patient customer care in a medical office, hospital, nursing home, home health agency, or a closely related area.
Required Licenses and Certifications: Ability to obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification within 6 months of employment. Prior to start date applicants must show proof of Medical Assistant certification or proof of registration for examination through one of the following national certifying boards: American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA); or American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA); or National Healthcare Association (NHA); or National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP). BLS and Medical Assistant certification or registration must be maintained for continued employment.
Preferred Qualification: Two years of related experience in a medical office, outpatient primary care clinic, hospital, nursing home, home health setting, or a closely related setting. Previous experience in a college healthcare environment. Successful completion of an accredited medical assistant program.

The individual is required to handle PII and PHI in accordance with University Health Services (UHS), Texas A&M University System policies, and all applicable federal regulations. 1PII includes information that can be used to distinguish or trace an individual’s identity, either alone or when combined with other personal or identifying information. 2PHI refers to any health information that can be linked to a specific individual and is protected under federal privacy regulations. FERPA and HIPAA training are required upon employment and must be completed on a recurring basis as determined by policy and job duties.
