GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in providing quality and compassionate care to patients.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Greeting and escorting patients to the exam room.
• Obtaining medical histories.
• Measuring and recording vital signs.
• Preparing patients for examinations or procedures.
• Assisting the provider during examinations or procedures.

Overview of Position:

• The MA will work in a procedural area directly assisting GI Providers with Colonoscopy and EGD procedures.
• Adherence to scope cleaning protocols as set by Infection Control and Scope Manufacturers is required.
• Participate in a thorough orientation to ensure safety and comfort in the department while working with patients and staff.
• Teamwork is essential in our busy department.
• Looking for a team player with a positive attitude and willingness to learn new skills.

Timing:

Monday through Friday, 7:30am-4:30pm. No weekends, holidays, or on-call duties.

Location / Address:

3rd floor of the Columbus Center in Novi, at the corner of 12 Mile Rd and Haggerty Road.

Education and Experience Required:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• Preferred: Basic computer skills and keyboarding skills.
• Preferred: Ability to perform various clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care.
• Preferred: Problem-solving skills and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
• Preferred: EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience.
• Preferred: Certified Medical Assistant credentials from AAMA/CMA, RMA, CCMA, or NCMA.

Additional Requirements:

Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with a minimum 160-hour clinical externship, or

Graduate without externship but with at least one year of recent clinical medical assisting experience, or

Current recognized Medical Assistant Certification with at least five years of clinical experience, or

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or

Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with one-year recent clinical experience, or

Military trained medical personnel with at least one year of recent clinical experience.

Certifications / Licensures Required:

• Current BLS-C certification upon hire or within orientation period.
