Job summary

Multnomah County Health Department seeks a Medical Assistant to support the patient care team across multiple health centers in Portland and surrounding areas. The role focuses on clinical support, patient follow-up, immunizations, simple procedures, and lab duties to promote high-quality care.

qualifications include graduation from an accredited MA program or certification with post-hire certification, CPR, and background checks.

Qualifications

• Requires graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
• Certification from a recognized Medical Assistant program (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, CCMA).
• If uncertified, must have a diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant training program.
• CPR certification is required.
• Candidates may be required to pass a criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient follow-up, including after-visit instructions, appointment setting, and education.
• Support back office clinic flow and time management for providers.
• Prepare patients for exams and procedures.
• Review immunizations and administer vaccines for clients of all ages.
• Perform medical treatments such as wound care, ear irrigations, suture removal and fluoride treatments.
• Ensure exam room is stocked, cleaned and ready for use.
• Provide back-up lab duties including phlebotomy and processing labs.
• Complete assigned Quality Control/Assurance activities.
• Provide back-up to the preventative MA.
