Medical Assistant/Front Office Coordinator

Overview

Supporting community healthcare is a rewarding role. LifeLong Medical Care is seeking a Medical Assistant/Front Office Coordinator at our Berkeley TRUST clinic. The role involves working as part of a patient-centered care team, providing urgent and primary care services in a community health setting. Responsibilities include assisting medical providers with clerical and clinical tasks using Electronic Health Record systems, coordinating clinic operations, and collaborating on protocols for patient scheduling and front office activities. The ideal candidate has excellent customer service skills, experience in medical office settings, completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program, and current CPR certification.

This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) in Berkeley, with benefits. Compensation ranges from $21 to $22 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid holidays, FSA, and 403(b) retirement plan. The position is represented by SEIU-UHW, with salaries and benefits governed by a collective bargaining agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize Electronic Health Record systems for patient registration, vital signs, medication and health history documentation.
  • Assist in patient flow, rooming, and scheduling.
  • Support front desk activities, including answering phones, managing records, and financial eligibility.
  • Complete discharge activities such as referrals, instructions, and appointment scheduling.
  • Prepare exam rooms and perform clinical tasks like injections, basic lab tests, phlebotomy, EKG, and assisting practitioners.
  • Maintain medical supplies, sterilize instruments, and ensure clinic cleanliness.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to safety and regulatory standards.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma/equivalent and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a community clinic or medical office.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet use.
  • Current CPR certification from an AHA-approved organization.
  • Ability to lift 20 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field.
  • Certifications such as AAMA, AMT, or CCMA.
  • Experience with EPIC EHR and practice management systems.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations or in community health settings.
