Job summary

Hughston Clinic is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to provide both clinical and administrative support across multiple departments and sites in Columbus, GA.

You will collect health histories, take vitals, enter data into EMR, assist with minor procedures, manage scheduling and patient flow, and ensure compliance with HIPAA and EMR guidelines while delivering compassionate patient care. The role requires flexibility to float between clinics and adapt to varying workflows.

Qualifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant credential or equivalent experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA and patient privacy requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Float between departments and sites to provide support where needed.
  • Adapt quickly to the differing protocols and workflows in each department.
  • Accurately collect and enter patient health history.
  • Take vitals upon check-in.
  • Review and maintain charts to ensure completeness/EMR guidelines.
  • Escort patients to triage and monitor patient flow for efficiency.
  • Enter tests and procedures as ordered; ensure timely performance.
  • Document patient information in EMR per physician direction.
  • Assist with minor surgical procedures and DME device Care.
  • Sterilize equipment and restock exam rooms; maintain clean facilities.
  • Communicate restrictions and instructions to patients; assist with scheduling.

Job description

Position Goal

Assists with patient care activities as instructed; provides both clinical and administrative support for the clinic and physician staff as needed.

  • Float between various department and sites to provide support where needed.
  • Adapt quickly to the differing protocols and workflows in each department.
  • Accurately collect and enter patient health history
  • Take vitals upon check-in.
  • Familiarity with what the physician requires for a productive clinic.
  • Review and maintain charts to ensure completeness/EMR guidelines w/reviewing clinicals.
  • Escort patient from waiting area to triage area, ranging from those patients with full mobility to limited mobility.
  • Monitoring of schedules and patient flow during clinic to ensure maximum efficiency/organization.
  • Accurately enter test and procedures as ordered by provider.
  • Ensure all ordered tests are performed accurately and in a timely manner
  • Accurately document patient information in EMR chart per physician direction.
  • Remove staples, sutures, and assist with minor surgical procedures as needed
  • Assist with placement, removal, and instruction of DME devices such as splints, casting, immobilizers, braces, and bandages
  • Clean and sterilize equipment using approved techniques
  • Clean and stock exam rooms and change sheets on exam tables after each patient
  • Communicate restrictions and instructions to patients
  • Communication with outside facilities for scheduling tests or surgery to include having any necessary orders, pre-cert, or referral information ready
  • Completion of insurance, disability, and FMLA forms in a timely manner
  • Assist in administrative duties as required, to include but not limited to: collection of past due balances when scheduling surgery, check in/check out; scheduling appointments, procedures, and surgeries, pre-cert procedures, insurance verification, data entry, posting charges, and assisting secretaries.

Experience

Required:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or one-year relevant experience required for consideration.
Education

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Special Qualifications
  • Must be able to work independently and have working knowledge of HIPAA requirements.
  • Knowledge of the health care field/medical specialty.
  • Must maintain BLS certification
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and satisfactory motor vehicle record (MVR)
