Scheduling

Scheduling: Will need to be available to work any shift between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant provides assistance to providers, in both family practice and specialty, with patient‑related procedures and patient history. Responsible for maintaining a smooth patient flow, and functions as liaison between the physicians, patients, and medical office staff. The Medical Assistant – Float supports primary care, pediatrics, lab and additional specialties across all Ambulatory locations and location schedules.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Assists ambulatory clinics by floating to designated site(s) based upon current staffing need and/or shortages; flexible with short notice regarding scheduled work site for day/week. Must accommodate ambulatory location schedule start times with shifts between 7am – 7pm.
  2. Assists providers in performing office procedures and duties related to patient care as requested, adhering to documentation standards based on Office Protocols.
  3. Consistently assesses the patient flow by identifying those areas or problems that are causing interruptions, resolves them or brings them to the attention of the Practice Manager.
  4. Performs basic Medical Assistant functions based on assigned office such as injections, immunization, pulmonary function testing, Snellen, hearing exams and electrocardiograms.
  5. Acquires thorough patient histories and documents preventative care, assists with medication reconciliation and transcribes family history and any forms based on office protocol.
  6. Reviews each patient order for completeness and cancels any order not done prior to patient check out. Consistently rectifies inaccuracies and calls them to the Practice Manager’s attention.
  7. Reviews each referral and laboratory requisition for correct patient, accurate tests and diagnosis and the correct laboratory.
  8. Obtains waivers and consents and documents thoroughly what procedures were performed and instruction given to patient using electronic medical record or following guidelines in Office Protocol.
  9. Appropriately prepares examination rooms immediately after patient’s visits. Maintains rooms stocked with supplies and are disinfected daily based on Office Protocol.
  10. Assures the patient is checked out and has been provided the Patient Summary Plan. Reviews the Patient Summary Plan to assure the patient clearly understands all instructions based on direction from providers.
  11. Exhibits tact, courtesy, respect, cooperation and support in every aspect of their job when with patients, staff and providers always adhering to.
  12. Performs duties with speed and accuracy while observing the guidelines set forth by OSHA, HIPAA, DHS, CLIA, EPA and specific contracts.
  13. May be expected to cover front desk duties as assigned by Practice Manager.
  14. Other duties assigned that are reasonably associated with the essential functions of the job as requested by Practice Manager.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
A. Education
  • High School diploma or equivalent required. Candidates with at least five (5) years of experience will be considered in lieu of diploma.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma/Certificate.
B. Qualifications/Experience
  • Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years of experience in a medical practice environment. Multi‑site and specialty experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association.
  • Certified by any Medical Board of California Approved Medical Assistant Certifying Organizations preferred.
C. Special Skills/Knowledge
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced and technically advanced environment requiring flexibility and adaptability.
  • Knowledge of medical technology, procedural terminology and diagnostic codes.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and patient‑care oriented attitude.
  • Must be flexible with short notice regarding scheduled work site for day/week; reliable transportation required.
