Job summary

Neighborhood Healthcare in California is seeking a Float Medical Assistant to support providers and nurses in delivering patient-centered care across Escondido and San Marcos clinics.

You will take vital signs, perform procedures such as blood draws, vaccines, nebulizer treatments and EKGs, and help coordinate patient information and education.

Qualified candidates have a High School diploma, MA certificate, BLS, and are bilingual preferred; a CA driver license is required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid Medical Assistant certificate required.
  • Current BLS certification required upon hire.
  • One year MA experience preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • CA driver license and proof of auto insurance required.

Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will support various providers, advanced providers, and registered nurses to provide excellent patient-centered care and services within a dynamic team environment. This role will communicate with patients and perform clinical services to ensure high quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.

This opportunity is for a Float Medical Assistant role supporting the following clinics: Escondido and San Marcos. This role will be expected to float between these sites based on organizational needs.

Responsibilities
  • Communicates and performs clinical care services with patients
  • Takes patient vital signs and obtains patient intake information
  • Performs clinical procedures such as blood draws, vaccines, nebulizer treatments, ear lavages, and EKGs
  • Discusses patient needs and provides education and resources to patients directly
  • Ensures exam rooms are stocked, cleaned, and set up for examinations and procedures
Provider and Team Support
  • Coordinates provider workflows to ensure efficient patient care
  • Ensures provider has all pertinent information required for each patient visit including diagnostic images, labs and required screenings
  • Assists other providers and care teams in women’s health, pediatrics and general medicine departments as needed
Clinical Administration
  • Utilizes electronic health records to order, process and document clinical treatment plans for patients as directed by the provider
  • Conveys information to patients via telephone or email under the direction of a provider or Registered Nurse
  • Provides patient with requested documents after review to ensure forms are complete, accurate and executed by the provider
  • Completes ongoing/annual training for position compliance
Education/Experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid Medical Assistant certificate from an accredited program required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required upon hire and must be maintained as a condition of employment. These courses must follow AHA guidelines but may be completed through approved online providers such as ProMed or other equivalent programs that meet recognized BLS standards.
  • One year of medical assistant experience preferred
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
  • Valid CA driver license and proof of auto insurance required and to be maintained as a condition of employment.

  • Must use sound judgment to anticipate needs of patients and providers

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift/carry 15lbs/weight
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
COMPLIANCE (Safety & HIPAA)
  • Follows all safety procedures as outlined in Neighborhood Healthcare’s Illness and Injury Prevention Plan (IIPP) and report any injuries and/or unsafe conditions immediately
  • Maintains current knowledge of policies and procedures as they relate to safe work practices
  • Uses appropriate body mechanics to ensure an injury free environment
  • Familiarity with location of nearest fire extinguisher and emergency exits
  • Follows all infection control procedures including blood-borne pathogen protocols
  • Maintains privacy of all patients, employee and volunteer information and access such information only on a need-to-know basis for business purposes
  • Complies with all regulations regarding corporate integrity and security obligations
  • Reports all behavior and/or activity that are unethical, fraudulent, or unlawful

Pay range: $24.95 - $34.93 per hour, depending on experience.

Note: This Float Medical Assistant role will include an additional $2.00 per hour float differential on top of the standard Medical Assistant pay rate.

While this range represents the broader classification of the role, actual compensation will be based on several factors, including but not limited to: the candidate’s overall knowledge, skills, and experience, market data and industry benchmarks, internal equity within the organization, Budgetary considerations and organizational needs. As a result, placement within the range is not guaranteed, and the full pay grade range may not be utilized.
