Paycom - ATS is seeking a Medical Assistant to assist physicians with patient care, manage vital signs, and coordinate appointments in a fast-paced clinical setting.

The role requires high school diploma or GED, CPR certification, and preferred MA certification. You will perform EHR documentation, patient prep, and discharge tasks while ensuring infection control standards are met.

Qualifications

  • Preferred medical assistant certification from an accredited program.
  • Current CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Fulfills patient care responsibilities for assigned physician and/or areas.
  • Takes vital signs and records them in the patient’s EHR.
  • Coordinates appointments and pre-visit information for patients.
  • Assists physician during exams and procedures as directed.
  • Handles patient discharge and communicates test results as instructed.
  • Answers calls, messages, and prescriptions per CNS protocols.
  • Maintains infection control and cleans exam rooms between visits.

General Summary: A nonexempt position responsible for performing a variety of duties including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical services.Essential Job Responsibilities:Fulfills patient care responsibilities for assigned physician and/or other areas as needed.Checks schedules and organizes patient flow. Ensures pre-visit information is completed.Coordinates appointments for specific care and diagnostic procedures.Alerts physician/provider of any special needs the patient may have (e.g., interpretation services).Takes vital signs, including weight, height and blood pressure. Records vital signs in the patient’s EHR.Accompanies patients to exam/procedure room, assists patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exam, etc.Assists physician/provider in examination of patients and gives instructions to patients as directed by the physician/provider.Enters required orders, as directed by the physician/provider, in the patient’s EHR. Enters any additional information as appropriate in the EHR.Adheres to all meaningful use workflows.Follows up with EHR tasks in an appropriate timeframe.Answers phone calls and takes messages for physician/provider. Returns patient phone calls as directed by the physician/provider and in accordance with CNS protocols.Checks voice mail throughout the day for messages.Obtains approval from the physician/provider for medication refills and notifies the pharmacy.Administers injections as directed by the physician/provider.Notifies patients of test results as instructed by the physician/provider.Assures quality of care by maintaining clinic standards of care while adhering to requirements of other governing agencies.Protects patients and employees by complying with infection control policies and procedures. Adheres to expectations of required/mandatory training and certifications.Handles patient discharge after appointment.Manages incoming and outbound faxes. Ensures physician sees and signs faxed patient information prior to sending to medical records for scanning.Communicates to appropriate staff any patient concerns, issues, cancellations, etc. Consults with the immediate supervisor about any system problems.Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned that may include:Obtains lab/radiology reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.completes forms/requisitions as neededschedules appointmentsconfirms insurance coverage and patient demographicsrequests prior authorizations as neededmanages and updates charts to ensure that information is complete and filed appropriatelyFulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include:sets up exam rooms for patient care according to physician needssets up instruments and equipment according to department protocolscleans exam rooms, procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection controlorders, sorts, stores and checks for expiration dates on supplies and restock exam/procedure roomsensures operation of medical equipment by following manufacturer’s instructions, reporting malfunctions and requesting repairsFulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including:respects and promote patient rightsresponds appropriately to emergenciesshares problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisorworks as a productive member of the team helping co-workers as needed and/or assignedPerforms other duties as assigned.Education: High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED)Preferred medical assistant certification from an accredited institution.Experience: Minimum one year of recent experience working in a medical facility as a medical assistant or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by the Clinical Operations Manager, Clinical Supervisor and/or Human Resources.Other Requirements: Current documentation: Must possess a current CPR certification.
