Job summary

Penobscot Community Health Care is seeking a Medical Assistant (MA) FLOAT to support multiple providers and clinics at the Helen Hunt Health Center. This role covers for MAs when others are out and helps deliver consistent, high-quality care across teams.

A strong emphasis on collaboration and flexible coverage is central to the position. The ideal candidate will have MA training, a high school diploma, and current BLS certification or the ability to obtain it within two weeks of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Evidence of Medical Assistant training with all essential functions listed in the job description.
• Up-to-date Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or to be obtained within 2 weeks of hire.
• Certification is encouraged and supported.

Responsibilities

• Support providers with patient care and clinical decisions to ensure high-quality visits.
• Conduct chart reviews, manage medication refills, and assist with pre-visit planning and other clinical requests.
• Prepare patients for examinations, room patients, and assist with vaccinations and labs as directed by providers.
• Maintain clinical spaces and process labs under provider direction.
• Support adherence to quality standards and clinic workflows and engage with patients and the care team.

Schedule:

Full-Time, Monday-Friday, Schedule TBD

(NOTE: Shift differential available for this float position.)

Education And Experience

Required:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Evidence of Medical Assistant training including all the essential job functions, knowledge, skills, and abilities listed here in this job description, or MA Certification required.
• Will have up-to-date training and certification in Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or American Health & Safety Institute. Must obtain within 2 weeks if not current at hire.
• Initial and maintained Certification is highly encouraged and supported.

Preferred:

• Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants, or CMA- Certification by the AAMA, or RMA- Certification by the AMT, or CCMA- Certification by the NHA. Or prepared to certify within 60 days of hire.
