The ideal candidate has 1-2 years of MA experience, a high school diploma or GED (associates preferred), and BLS certification. The schedule is 40 hours/week, with a 8:30am–5:00pm or 7:30am–6:00pm option, onsite at 170 University Drive, Amherst, MA

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required or Associate's Degree Medical Assisting preferred.
  • Direct MA experience or medical field work 1-2 years required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist junior Medical Assistants and support onboarding.
  • Show patients to examination rooms, prepare equipment, interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information in the medical record.
  • Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions; organize educational materials.
  • Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while liaising with departments and advocating for patients with good service.
  • Collect blood, tissue, or other specimens, log them, and prepare for testing; perform phlebotomy if competent.
  • Maintain inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • Provide immunizations where applicable with required certification or supervision.
  • Support quality initiatives such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.

Job Summary

Our practice is located at 170 University Drive Amherst, MA 01002. As a Family Medicine office, we offer comprehensive primary care services to patients of all ages, from infants to adults. Convenient, caring and complete: Amherst Medical Associates gives you all three, close to home. Our primary care practice is a favorite in the Amherst area because families know they’ll be treated with warmth and respect. Visits are comfortable, relaxed engagements with friendly providers who are invested in your well‑being and want you to feel better. We are seeking a full‑time, 40‑hour Medical Assistant to support the practice onsite, Monday through Friday. We are open to the schedule being Monday through Friday 8:30am‑5:00pm or 4, 10‑shifts from 7:30am‑6:00pm with one day off during the week!

Summary

The role supports healthcare teams by assisting with both clinical and non-clinical patient services under the direction of healthcare providers. Key responsibilities include taking vital signs, documenting patient information, scheduling appointments, and managing patient flow. This role involves direct interaction with patients to ensure their comfort and address concerns, as well as collaboration with physicians, nurse practitioners, and nursing staff to facilitate efficient care.

Essential Functions
  • -Assists junior Medical Assistants with day-to-day questions and responsibilities and helps facilitate their learning by participating in onboarding training.
  • -Show patients to examination rooms, prepare necessary equipment for healthcare providers, and interview patients to obtain medical information, measure their vital signs, weight, and height, and record information in the patient’s medical record.
  • -Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, and physician instructions to patients, ordering and organizing educational materials to reinforce patient education.
  • -Perform general office duties, such as answering phones, taking dictation, and completing insurance forms, while acting as a liaison with other departments and advocating for patients with a positive customer service approach.
  • -Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log them, and prepare them for testing; perform phlebotomy if competence is demonstrated.
  • -Maintains inventory of immunizations and check expiration dates.
  • -Provides immunizations (as applicable) which requires certification or 3 years of experience administering a vaccine and supervision of a provider.
  • -Responsible for improving appropriate departmental quality initiatives, such as two patient identifiers and hand hygiene.
