Job summary

Sentara Health in Norfolk, VA is seeking a Medical Assistant to join our Employee Health team. The role encompasses patient care, clerical tasks, and collaboration with physicians, NPs, PAs, and nurses in a busy, supportive environment.

Daily duties include taking vitals, assisting with exams, processing vaccines, blood draws, and maintaining accurate records. A high school diploma, BLS within 90 days, and CMA/MA certification are required; 1 year of experience preferred.

Qualifications

• 1 year of relevant clinical experience.
• Experience with blood draws and vaccines preferred.
• Experience with Respiratory Fit testing preferred.
• BLS required within 90 days after hire.
• CMA/MA certification or equivalent is required or must be obtained.

Responsibilities

• The Medical Assistant performs patient care and administrative and clerical tasks under supervision of the Physician/NP/PA/RN/LPN.
• Assist with exams, vitals, vaccines, and specimen collection.
• Maintain accurate records and coordinate daily clinic operations.

Overview:

Sentara Health is seeking to hire a qualified individual to join our team as a Medical Assistant.

Position Status: Full-time - 40 hours / week

Position Location: Sentara Leigh Hospital - Norfolk, VA

Standard Working Hours: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, Monday - Friday

Department Overview: Join our team-oriented employee health office! Our unit is open to new grads or experienced candidates. The Employee Health team is responsible for the health and wellness for Sentara employees. This includes pre-placement exams, annual health assessments, flu vaccines/immunizations, return to work tests and fitness for duty evaluations.

Overview

The Medical Assistant performs patient care and administrative and clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).

Education

• Highschool grad or equivalent

Certification/Licensure

• BLS (Required within 90 days)
• Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, or certified EMT (EMT-B, AEMT) required

Experience

• 1 year of relevant clinical experience (required)
• Experience with blood draws and vaccines (preferred)
• Experience with Respiratory Fit testing (preferred)
