GENERAL OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the provider and as a member of the health care team, assists in coordinating the examination, treatment, and health care planning for patients. Supports office functions to enhance patient care and operations. Follows all protocols, policies, procedures, and workflows.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assist in coordinating patient care under supervision of the healthcare provider using a team-based approach.
  2. Prepare and room patients, obtain vital signs, document patient information, history, tobacco, and medication screening. Assist with depression screening, annual wellness visits, and update medication and social history in the EHR. Pend/''cue up'' orders for screenings, prescriptions, or other orders based on protocols.
  3. Perform back office testing following approved protocols.
  4. Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  5. May serve as a scribe with additional training.
  6. Follow up with patients via their preferred method, notify patients of test results under provider direction.
  7. Prepare exam rooms, ensure inventory of supplies, and maintain cleanliness and sterilization standards.
  8. Perform lab controls and equipment checks.
  9. Administer and document medications safely and accurately.
  10. Document all activities in the EHR according to standards.
  11. Perform clerical duties and other tasks as assigned.
  12. May float between physician offices as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum:

  • High School/GED
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program OR 1 year of Medical Assistant or direct patient care experience including vital signs (injections, phlebotomy, EKGs)
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34, 33, and 73 FBI Fingerprinting and Background Clearances

Certification Requirements:

  • Graduated from a medical assistant program within five years or have one year of recent work experience as a medical assistant. Must complete certification training/testing within 30 days of hire and obtain certification within 120 days.
  • Accepted certifications include NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA.

Opportunity for certification exam if criteria are not initially met.

Preferred:

  • Associate's Degree
