Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support providers across multiple sites, starting at Royal Oak with coverage at nearby campuses. The role focuses on patient preparation, charting vital signs, and assisting practical procedures in an ambulatory setting.

You will work under supervision of nursing leadership, contributing to efficient patient flow and high-quality care. A MA program credential and clinical externship are required or equivalent clinical experience.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
• EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.
• Professional certification options: CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA preferred.
• Graduate from a Medical Assistant program with externship (160 hours) minimum, or equivalent clinical experience.
• Alternative qualifications include LPN, EMT, or military medical background with relevant clinical experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet and escort patients to exam rooms, ensuring a welcoming environment.
• Take medical histories and record vital signs.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring they are informed and at ease.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures with necessary tools and support.
• Demonstrate clinical competence in ambulatory patient care.

Education

Graduate of Medical Assistant program with externship (160 hour minimum)

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or equivalent certification preferred

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with clinical experience preferred

Military trained medical personnel with clinical experience preferred

This is a contingent position with Royal Oak as Primary / main site and person is required to cover two other sites as per need

Flexible timing in between 6:30 am - 5:00 pm

2-3 days / week - Occasional Saturdays

What You Will Do

• Greet and escort patients to the exam room, ensuring a welcoming and comfortable environment.
• Take medical histories and measure/record vital signs to assist in patient assessments.
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures, ensuring they are informed and at ease.
• Assist physicians during examinations and procedures, providing necessary support and tools.
• Demonstrate clinical competence in performing a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care.

Required Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.

• Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA/CMA),American Medical Technologists (RMA),National Health Career Associations Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), andNational Center for Competency Testing National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) preferred.

Additional Requirements:

Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum).OR

Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years.OR

Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in clinical medical assisting. OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).OR

Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.OR

Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.
