Medical Assistant (Certified) I

A Brief Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team in providing direct patient care. The Medical Assistant, Certified performs routine administrative and patient care supportive duties in a Health System medical practice that assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensure the clinic/office runs smoothly.

What You Will Do

  • Accompanying patients to exam rooms, preparing patients for exams
  • Performing and documenting vital signs
  • Assisting with procedures
  • Preparing and administering medications with physician’s authorization
  • Performing EKGs
  • Using CPR skills when required
  • Drawing blood
  • Providing patient education regarding office policies, medication, disease management, home treatments, and special diets
  • Stocking exam rooms, cleaning rooms and instruments, disposing of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards, and performing accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times
  • Adhering to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of related customer-facing experience Required
  • Healthcare experience Preferred

Skills And Abilities

  • Computer knowledge
  • High interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, visitors, and clinical staff, including all levels of providers
  • High accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Phlebotomy skills and experience

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant - National Healthcareer Association Required or
  • Certified Medical Assistant - American Association of Medical Assistants Required or
  • Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists Required or
  • National Certified Medical Assistant - National Center for Competency Testing Required
  • Basic Life Support Certified - American Heart Association Required

PAT Rating
