Job summary

MaineHealth Behavioral Health is hiring Medical Assistants for full-time day shifts in Portland, ME. Sign-on bonuses are offered: $4,000 for 0–1 year of experience and $5,000 for 1+ year, with prorating for part-time roles.

The Medical Assistant role includes patient care and administrative support, working in a team-based setting under physician/AP supervision to ensure efficient patient flow.

Qualifications

• Education: High School diploma or GED preferred with one of: 160 hours clinical experience in Medical Assisting, or completion of Adult Education Medical Assistant program with 6 months clinical experience, or 1 year clinical experience in a multi-provider practice.
• License/Certifications: Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, or NCCT certification; current BLS or ability to obtain within 30 days.
• Experience: Six months MA experience or one year as a MaineHealth Clinical Team Assistant.

Summary:
The Medical Assistant (MA) role is assigned duties and responsibilities related to patient care and administrative support in a team-based environment while promoting a smooth flow of patients through the office. The Medical Assistant MA role functions under the license of the physician/advanced practice practitioner when performing clinical and other patient care responsibilities.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

• Education: High School diploma or GED preferred. Must meet one of the following requirements: Graduated from an accredited vocational institution or community college in Medical Assisting with 160 hours of clinical experience completed; or completion of an Adult Education Medical Assistant program and 6 months of clinical experience in a practice setting; or 1 year of clinical experience in a multi-provider practice setting (equivalent experience will be evaluated on a case-case basis).
• License/Certifications: Current AAMA, NHA, AMT, or NCCT certification required. (Prior to 5/01/25 MA IIs with 10 years MA experience and employed by MaineHealth as a MA in the most recent 5 years are exempt from certification requirement). Current BLS certification required or must obtain within 30 days of start date. A NH Med Tech License, or NH EMT and National Registry EMT license is required for those positions located in New Hampshire.
• Experience: Six months of experience as a Medical Assistant or one year as a MaineHealth Clinical Team Assistant.
