Job summary

Vail Health is seeking a Medical Assistant for Avon Urgent Care in Avon, CO. This full-time role supports providers in patient care, records, and admin tasks within a fast-paced clinic.

You will gather vitals, assist with exams, perform venipunctures and injections, and prepare patients for procedures while maintaining accurate EHR documentation and strong patient communication. Experience and valid licenses preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years experience with patient care and administrative duties.
• Venipuncture, injections, and IV initiation skills preferred.
• Basic knowledge of medical terminology, medical equipment, HIPAA compliance and OSHA rules.

Responsibilities

• Obtain, monitor, and record vital signs, patient history and procedures; document in EHR.
• Field patient calls promptly and professionally.
• Assist providers and clinical staff with examinations and procedures.
• Prepare patients for scheduled procedures, including venipunctures, injections, and IV therapy.
• Monitor patient condition and report changes to the provider.
• Maintain patient documentation and communicate care plan with provider.
• Ensure examination rooms are stocked, cleaned and equipment sterilized; perform opening/closing tasks.

About the opportunity

Responsible for independently assisting providers with patient care, maintaining patient records and completing administrative duties that assist in the management of patient care.

What you will do

• Obtains, monitors, and records vital signs, patient history, and invasive procedures; ensuring accuracy and proper documentation in the patient’s Electronic Health Record (EHR).
• Fields patient phone calls promptly and in a professional manner.
• Assists providers and other clinical staff with examinations, procedures, and other processes related to direct patient care.
• Prepares patient for scheduled procedures, including venipunctures, injections, and initiates intravenous therapy as necessary.
• Monitors medical condition of patient and report change to appropriate provider.
• Maintains patient documentation and communicates plan of care with provider including ordered diagnostics or therapeutic services.
• Ensures cleanliness, adequate stock of supplies and functioning equipment in examination rooms. Replaces supplies depleted on a daily basis. Cleans and sterilizes equipment and tools. Completes shift opening and closing procedures.

• Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

What you will need

Experience

  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologist (AMT)
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcare Association
  • Medical Assistant Certification (MAC) by the American Medical Certification Association
  • Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant by the National Association for Health Professionals
• State of Colorado Licensed Practical Nurse or valid compact state license
• State of Colorado Emergency Medical Technician license

LNA or EMT license pay range: $22.00 – $28.39

Medical Assistant certification pay range: $23.20 – $31.00

LPN, RN, or Paramedic pay range: $25.47 – $35.98

• Basic Life Support (BLS) required

Computer / Typing

Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job‑specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.
