Job summary

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains seeks a Medical Assistant to support abortion care through clinical triage, patient education, and follow-up. You will work under supervision to ensure empathetic, patient-centered care and compliance with regulatory standards.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, reliable transportation, and MLS/MA certification preferred or achieved within 15 months. BLS and ultrasound training within stated timelines are required, with Spanish language skills

Qualifications

• Medical Assistant Certification preferred (CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or RMA) or must obtain Medical Assistant certification within 15 months of hire.
• Must complete PPRM Ultrasound training within nine months of hire (except NM).
• Must obtain and maintain BLS certification within six weeks of hire.
• Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Under supervision, support the provider in a culturally competent, patient-centered manner.
• Perform vital signs and collect patient information (allergies, meds).
• Collect patient specimens (blood, urine) for tests.
• Perform basic point-of-care tests (pregnancy tests, CLIA-waived tests).
• Document tests and findings in the medical record accurately.
• Perform venipuncture and injections with training.
• Assist with clinical procedures (abortion, IUD placement, cervical cancer screening).
• Escort patients and act as a chaperone during exams or procedures.
• Support health center operations, monitor supplies, and maintain cleanliness.

What You'll Do:

Under the supervision and delegation of the ordering provider, you will support the provider in a culturally competent and destigmatizing patient-centered manner in compliance with all regulations, including but not limited to PPRM’s Medical Standards & Guidelines, pharmacy, HIPAA, OSHA, and CLIA regulations.

Clinical:

• Perform vital signs and collect patient information such as patient allergies, medication list, etc.
• Collect patient specimens such as blood and urine for appropriate tests.
• Perform basic point of care lab tests such as pregnancy tests, including select delegated CLIA waived tests and related controls.
• Accurately document collected information and test results in the medical record.
• Perform venipuncture and injections with training and competency validation.
• Perform basic dating ultrasound following training and competency validation.
• Dispense medications and supplies.
• Sanitize exam rooms and medical equipment including use of autoclave and ultrasound-cleaning equipment.
• Assist the provider in clinical procedures such as abortion, IUD placement, cervical cancer screening, etc.
• Act as a chaperone during patient exams or procedures, as needed.
• Escort patients throughout the health center and upon discharge.

Operations:You will assist with the upkeep of the health center operations in a variety of ways to facilitate all aspects of patient care, maintain an organized and effective worksite, and jump in to support the team.

• Act as a mandatory reporter per state and regulatory requirements.
• Support patient follow-up which may include contacting patients by telephone, or electronic communications.
• Assist with monitoring and ordering supplies to maintain accurate inventory of medications and materials required to ensure Health Center operations.
• Assist with routine health center upkeep and cleaning, including stocking exam rooms with necessary supplies.
• Contribute to research such as introducing opportunities for studies as patients check in, while rooming patients, etc.
• Execute side tasks including but not limited to Birth Control by Mail, records release, special fund tracking, etc.

Salary Range:$22.08/hour - $23.78/hour. If you have an active medical assistant certification (CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or RMA): $23.43/hour - $25.24/hour Salary placement will be determined based on years of directly relevant experience (i.e. previous Med. Asst. experience).

Additional Pay:+$2.25/hour for Spanish fluency (upon passing test)

Schedule: Benefits Eligible; Anticipated Start Date in November/ December 2026 Ideal candidate will have a flexible schedule to include availability to work; days, evenings, and weekends if needed.

Option 1: Part-Time ~36 hours/week:

Monday 8:45am - 6:15pm

Tuesday 8:45am - 6:15pm

Thursday 8:45am - 6:15pm

Option 2: Part-Time ~23.5 hours/week:

Thursday 9am - 6:30pm

Friday 8am - 5:30pm

Saturday 9am - 3pm

COVID-19 Protocol:Vaccination against COVID-19 will no longer be a condition of employment. However, all Health Center/Patient or Community Facing Employees, must have the COVID vaccine or wear a mask at all times beginning November 1st. Proof must be uploaded upon hire. Flu Protocol:All employees working directly with patients, the community or working in a health center will be required to have the flu shot or wear a mask during patient/community contact or while in the health center from November 1 – April 30 each year (Flu Season).
