Description

This program is a collaborative effort between MaineHealth and Southern Maine Community College (SMCC). It begins on July 21st, with classes held at SMCC's Brunswick Campus.

Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program

This 9-month program, offered in partnership with Southern Maine Community College - Brunswick Campus, combines classroom and clinical training. Classes are held one day per week (Fridays) at SMCC in Brunswick. Apprentices will work 24 hours/week (3-8 hour days) at a MaineHealth outpatient practice in Greater Portland. The position is paid at $18.36/hr for 40 hours/week, with full-time benefits.

Participants will receive full financial support for schooling, including textbooks and materials. The program provides hands-on experience across various settings and specialties. Bus/Metro transportation to Brunswick campus is provided if needed.

Due to high interest, early application is encouraged. Selected candidates will be contacted directly for interviews.

Role Summary: The Apprentice - Medical Assistant works alongside a mentor, assisting physicians and practitioners in patient care and administrative tasks, ensuring smooth office operations.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. High School diploma or GED preferred; active enrollment with a grade of C or better in the Medical Assisting Apprenticeship Program required.
  2. Current BLS certification required or must be obtained before clinical training. NH Med Tech License is required for positions in New Hampshire.

Additional skills or experience are not required or preferred.
