Medical Assistant Apprenticeship Program - Greater Portland Locations

This program is a collaborative effort between MaineHealth and Southern Maine Community College (SMCC). It begins on July 21 and offers a mix of classroom and clinical training. Classes are held one day per week at SMCC’s Brunswick Campus, and apprentices work 24 hours/week at a MaineHealth outpatient practice in Greater Portland, with full benefits and paid at $18.36/hr for 40 hours. The program provides full financial support for schooling, including textbooks and materials, and offers hands-on experience in various settings and specialties. Transportation to Brunswick campus is provided if needed.

Role Summary:

The Apprentice – Medical Assistant supports physicians and practitioners by assisting in patient care and administrative tasks, working alongside a mentor to ensure smooth office operations.

Minimum Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED preferred; active enrollment in an approved Medical Assisting Apprenticeship Program with a grade C or better is required.
  • Current BLS certification required or must be obtained prior to clinical training. NH Med Tech License is required for positions in New Hampshire.
