Essentia Health in Wahpeton is launching a Medical Assistant Apprentice program within our Wahpeton Clinic. You will be hired to work in primary care and funded to complete education and certification as a Medical Assistant, through a qualifying program with a partnering organization.

The program requires a 1-year work commitment after course completion. The apprenticeship provides hands-on clinical training, cohort-based learning starting July 2026, mentorship from experienced clinicians, and

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• AHA Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 3 months of hire.
• Enrollment in Medcerts training program for CMA/MA pathway.
• CCMA Board Certification required within 12 months of completing apprentice education.
• ND Board of Nursing registration as MAIII within 60 days of program completion.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on training as a clinical assistant in a primary care setting.
• Participate in cohort-based training beginning July 2026.
• Gaining skills in patient care, clinical procedures, and administrative duties.
• Receive ongoing coaching and mentorship throughout the program.

Licensure/CertificationQualifications:

• AHA Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification within 3 months of hire.

• Will enroll in the Medcerts training program, advancing through learning modules and acquiring the skills to perform the clinical assistant position.

• Upon completion of the apprentice program, CCMA Board Certification is required within 12 months of completing the apprentice education program and meeting the on‑the‑job hours requirement.

• Must be registered as a Medication Assistant III through the North Dakota Board of Nursing within 60 days of program completion. Medical assistants can NOT administer medication prior to being registered as an MAIII through the ND BON.
