Job summary

The Medical Assistant at MedStar Health performs clinical and administrative duties in an ambulatory care setting under the supervision of a physician/provider and/or a registered nurse. Duties include venipuncture, medication and vaccine administration, vital signs, and assisting with patient exams.

The role may float to other sites within the system. Responsibilities include ensuring optimal patient flow, supporting the team, documenting in the EMR, and participating in safety and quality

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required; MA program preferred.
  • Less than 1 year ambulatory care experience required; externship preferred.
  • CMA or RMA certification within 1 year preferred and CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies, procedures, quality and safety standards.
  • Assists with patient preparation for exams and minor procedures, ensuring efficient patient flow.
  • Performs point-of-care tests, basic nursing tasks, and documents activities in the EMR.
  • Floats to other sites within the system as needed and participates in safety/infection control activities.
