Job summary

University of Michigan Health-West Wyoming is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform both administrative and clinical duties in an ambulatory setting.

Under the Office Manager, you will take vitals, prepare patients, assist physicians, manage records, and support a collaborative care team. Requires MA certification and BLS; prior experience preferred.

Excellent communication skills and infection-control knowledge are essential; must be flexible and able to work under pressure.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current Certification as Medical Assistant required.
• BLS certification required by 3/1/2025.
• Previous MA experience preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with the medical team.
• Ability to communicate with patients and staff with diplomacy and tact.
• Ability to operate medical equipment safely.
• Knowledge of infection prevention and control standards.
• Flexible, organized and able to function under stress.
• Intermediate computer/information systems experience.

Responsibilities

• Ensure reports, test results, labs and correspondence are ready before appointments.
• Escort patients to exam room, interview patients, measure vitals and document in records.
• Review records to determine needed services and referrals since last visit.
• Assist physician or providers during examination or procedure.
• Provide patient information and instructions as authorized by physician.
• Maintain exam room supplies and prepare instruments for sterilization.
• Provide clerical support (forms, phones, records, referrals).
• Clean rooms between visits per infection control standards.
• Administer medications and immunizations under supervision.
• Process messages between patients and staff to physicians.
• Process medication refills per protocols.
• Maintain logs (fridge temps, meds, oxygen, sterilization fluids).
• Perform EKGs and CLIA-waived tests.
• Collect blood samples and other specimens for diagnosis.
• Participate in process improvement activities to enhance care.
