Job Summary

The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Physician, Clinical Lead, Clinical Nurse Supervisor, Nurse Supervisor, and/or Office Manager. Recognizes patient's needs and symptoms in advance. Provides care for the patient under the physician's direction. Responsibilities include preparing patients for exams, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, and recording treatments in the medical record. Assists with explaining patient instructions to patients and families. Demonstrates competency to serve patients of all ages, including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Performs duties related to front office registration, laboratory testing, and radiology within a specialty setting.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions
  • Register patients upon entrance to the facility and perform registration operations
  • Prepare equipment and rooms, assist physicians with patient treatment
  • Perform vital signs and other patient preparation duties
  • Rotate among clinical and non-clinical areas such as lab, x-ray, and front office
  • Ensure patient safety needs are met
  • Cross-train team members
Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Duties
  • Perform radiographic and diagnostic imaging procedures, ensuring proper techniques and radiation safety
  • Prepare and position patients for imaging, obtain quality images, process and review images
  • Maintain logs, reports, and documentation
  • Start and maintain lab equipment, perform tests, draw blood, and perform Point of Care testing
  • Order and stock supplies, perform quality control and cleaning
Patient Liaison and Teamwork
  • Provide patient-centered care respecting cultural diversity
  • Partner with patients and families, communicate effectively, and keep patients at ease
  • Coordinate care delivery, promote respectful and inclusive environment
Professional Development and Evidence-Based Practice
  • Complete professional competency assessments and mandatory education
  • Serve as preceptor and role model
  • Promote evidence-based practices, participate in data collection and research activities
Resources, Support, and Additional Duties
  • Plan for patient care across the continuum
  • Develop protocols and support resource efficiency
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Certifications
  • High School Diploma or GED; Medical Assisting certification from an accredited program
  • Certifications: Medical Assistant, BLS (Basic Life Support), OSHA training, and credentialing exam (AAMA, AMT, NHA, NCCT)
Experience and Skills
  • Preferred: practice setting experience, radiology, phlebotomy certification
  • Must be organized, attentive to detail, able to work efficiently, and communicate effectively in English
