Position Title

Medical Assistant - All Ambulatory Clinics, Bell Hospital, Indian Creek

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of patients through the healthcare setting by facilitating examination and treatment in a culturally sensitive manner with exceptional customer service. They contribute to patient care by preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consults, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic/exam rooms, maintaining supply and equipment inventory, and assisting physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions
  1. Accurately schedules tests; obtains films and reports; prepares laboratory specimens according to policy.
  2. Assists physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on the competency checklist.
  3. Coordinates and implements plans for patient care with the healthcare team; may record elements of patient history for review.
  4. Electronically submits, calls, and/or faxes prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
  5. Ensures data collected for procedures is recorded properly in forms and medical records.
  6. Maintains medical records; ensures documentation is complete; distributes reports and correspondence; files and photocopies forms related to medical charts.
  7. Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of examination rooms; stocks supplies; checks and completes logs and equipment checks.
  8. Performs clerical duties such as greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification, insurance processing, financial record preparation, phone handling, and charge entry.
  9. Performs simple procedures as directed by nurses or physicians, as defined on the competency checklist.
  10. Performs vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures; documents findings.
  11. Must be capable of performing the professional, clinical, and technical competencies required by the department.
  12. Other duties as assigned, depending on department needs.
Required Education and Experience
  • High School Graduate
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program, or at least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant, CCMA, or NCRMA certification.
Required Licensure and Certification
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days.
Preferred Licensure and Certification
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or NCRMA.
Knowledge Requirements
  • Basic typing and word processing skills.
