Position Title: Medical Assistant - All Ambulatory Clinics, Bell Hospital, Indian Creek

Position Summary / Career Interest:

The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of patients through the healthcare setting by facilitating examination and treatment of patients in a culturally sensitive manner with exceptional customer service. They contribute to patient care by preparing patients for visits, performing limited procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests or consults, maintaining patient records, organizing clinic/exam rooms, maintaining supply/equipment inventory, and assisting physicians, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
  1. Accurately schedule tests; obtain films and reports; prepare laboratory specimens according to policy.
  2. Assist physicians and/or nurses with special procedures and examinations as defined on the competency checklist.
  3. Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate and implement patient care plans; record elements of patient history for review.
  4. Electronically submit, call, and/or fax prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
  5. Ensure data collected for procedures is recorded properly in medical records.
  6. Maintain medical records, ensuring all documentation is available; distribute reports and correspondence; file and photocopy forms related to medical charts.
  7. Keep examination rooms orderly and clean; stock supplies and check equipment logs regularly.
  8. Perform clerical duties including greeting patients, registration, scheduling, pre-certification, insurance processing, and billing.
  9. Perform simple procedures as directed by the nurse or physician, as per competency checklist.
  10. Record vital signs, height, weight, and screening procedures.
  11. Perform professional, clinical, and technical competencies relevant to the assigned department.
  12. Other duties as assigned, depending on department needs.
Required Education and Experience:
  • High School Graduate
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program or at least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant, CCMA, or NCRMA certification.
Required Licensure and Certification:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 14 days of hire.
Preferred Licensure and Certification:
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or NCRMA.
Knowledge Requirements:
  • Basic typing and word processing skills.
