Job summary

US Heart & Vascular is seeking a Medical Assistant for Memorial Katy Cardiology in Houston, TX. You will review patient charts, document medical history, verify medications in the EMR, and schedule tests as needed. Proficiency with EKGs and related devices is required.

The role includes patient rooming, vitals, scanning, handling messages, and coordinating care with physicians. A high school diploma or GED plus MA externship completes the basics; CPR/BCLS and English fluency are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or Texas accredited GED.
• 1 year of Medical Assistant experience or completion of accredited MA program with externship.
• Current CPR and Medical Assistant certification or obtain within 90 days.
• Current BCLS certification.
• Must have experience in administration of EKGs.
• Cardiology practice experience preferred but not required.
• Fluently speaks, reads, and writes English.

Responsibilities

• Review charts and the daily schedule the day before.
• Populate health/surgical history in the EMR.
• Verify and input patient medications into EMR; update as needed.
• Check if EKGs are needed and schedule testing.
• Explain scheduled testing to patients; arrange testing appointments.
• Process documents via scan and fax; manage messages and calls.
• Handle eScribe box daily and refill prescriptions as assigned.
• Perform Holter monitor hook-ups, event/Loop recorders; assist tests.
• Assist physicians with exams and test interpretation.
• Take vital signs; room patients promptly; restock and clean rooms.
• Monitor and manage pharmacy samples; handle related calls.
• Assist with insurance precertification, prior authorizations, and scheduling.

Education LevelHigh School Diploma/GED## DescriptionUS Heart and Vascular is in need of a Medical Assistant to join our team at Memorial Katy Cardiology in Houston, TX.**Responsibilities:*** Review charts and the daily schedule the day before. · Populate health/surgical history, etc.* Verifies and inputs patient medications into EMR. Making changes and additions as needed to the medication list.* Check if EKGs are needed* Schedule testing appointments and explain the scheduled testing to the patient · Scan and fax necessary documents* Check voicemail (individual assigned each day) and call patients back within 48 hours* Check eScribe box daily and refill prescriptions (MA assigned to a provider)* Use Telephone Encounters on eClinical Works.* Holter monitor hook-ups and removals, event recorders and Loop recorders. (Proficiency Required)* Perform stress tests as needed and assist in test interpretation. Assist physicians with patient exams as needed.* Receive and return phone calls from patients and other external sources. Receives and returns portal messages in the EMR.* Room patients in a timely manner* Responsible for performing EKG, rhythm strip, and signal average EKG hook-ups and printouts (proficiency required).* Add EKG order with diagnosis code to progress note.* Takes vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, weight, etc.)* Clean rooms and restock at the end of the day* Monitor pharmacy samples, removing them from stock as expired.* Handle pharmacy calls and enter diagnosis codes* Access Cover My Meds* May also be responsible for insurance precertification, prior authorization, procedure/surgery scheduling and coordinating transfers and admissions.* Additional duties as assigned based on practice needs* Move locations as needed**Requirements:*** High school diploma or Texas accredited GED* 1 year of Medical Assistant experience, or recent graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program with completion of program externship.* Current CPR and Medical Assistant certification or obtain within 90 days of hire date.* Current BCLS certification.* Must have experience in administration of EKGs.* Cardiology practice experience preferred but not required.* Fluently speaks, reads, and writes English.* Comprehensive benefits package* Monday-Friday schedule* CME allowance**About Houston, TX:**Houston is a diverse city with a booming job market in energy, healthcare, and tech.
